Piles

Piles, also known as hemorrhoids, are swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum and anus that cause discomfort, itching, pain, and bleeding during bowel movements. They can be internal (inside the rectum) or external (under the skin around the anus). Common causes include chronic constipation, straining during bowel movements, prolonged sitting, pregnancy, and a low-fiber diet. While piles are not usually serious, they can significantly affect daily comfort and quality of life.
Mild cases of piles can often be managed with lifestyle changes such as eating a high-fiber diet, drinking plenty of water, avoiding straining, and using over-the-counter creams or sitz baths. However, in more severe or persistent cases, medical treatments such as rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, or surgical removal (hemorrhoidectomy) may be necessary. Early diagnosis and proper care can relieve symptoms quickly and prevent recurrence.
