Geriatrics is the medical branch with a focus on the health and well-being of older adults, who are unable to do their day to day activities and would need special attention and assistance.
It primarily covers the conditions related to ageing such as loss of memory, arthritis, osteoporosis, mobility issues, chronic diseases, and medication management.
The highly prevalent conditions are the geriatric syndromes which are better known as delirium, falls, incontinence and frailty. These conditions may arise out of various factors, and are linked with a substantial rate of morbidity.
