Fissure

A fissure, commonly known as an anal fissure, is a small tear or cut in the lining of the anus. It often causes sharp pain and bleeding during or after bowel movements. Fissures can result from passing hard stools, chronic constipation, prolonged diarrhea, or excessive straining during bowel movements. Though they are not usually serious, they can be very painful and may lead to discomfort during daily activities.
Most anal fissures heal on their own with simple home treatments such as increasing fiber intake, staying hydrated, using sitz baths, and applying topical creams. However, if the fissure becomes chronic or does not heal within a few weeks, medical treatment may be required. In some cases, procedures like Botox injections or a minor surgical intervention called lateral internal sphincterotomy may be recommended to promote healing and relieve symptoms effectively.
